Franz Ferdinand have teamed up with Beatport to promote a remix competition for the release of the band’s third album, ‘Tonight: Franz Ferdinand’, preceded by first single ‘Ulysses’, set for release January 19.
Aping Radiohead’s remix competitions, remixable elements of the single will be made available to buy on November 4. Fans will be able to put together their own version of the track – all in advance of the release of the track, which will see its first radio play on November 17.
Fan-submitted remixes will be judged by Beatport and the Beatport community and the overall winner will then be picked by the band. The winning entries will then be released digitally to coincide with the single release in January.
As the band invites fans to take part in a second remix project, Radiohead has revealed some of the numbers pertaining to the band’s last remix experiment.
The last remix for ‘In Rainbows’ track, ‘Nude’, saw “6,193,776, Page Views: 29,090,134, Hits: 58,340,512, Bandwidth: 10.666 Terabytes, Number of mixes: 2,252, Number of votes: 461,090, Number of track listens: 1,745,304,” the band revealed in a note to fans despatched in the early hours today.
To make remixing easy, the separate ‘stems’* from the song will be made available to purchase on iTunes. Stems include bass, lead vocal, backing vocals, guitars, piano/strings and drums. All six stems will be available to buy for the price of a single track.
Fans can mix the stems in any way they like, either by adding their own beats and instrumentation, or just remixing the original parts.
