Coombes, Goffey, Godrich bring Hot Rats…

Oasis, Snow Patrol for iTunes Live ’09

itunesliveOasis, Snow Patrol & Flo Rida will star as part of Apple’s third ever iTunes Festival this year, set to take place at the legendary Camden Roundhouse.

The festival takes place every night of July 2009 at the venue. Additional acts will include Kasabian, Paolo Nutini, Snow and The Saturdays, with more acts to be announced in the weeks to come.

Take That are Millenium’s fastest-sellers

Take That have this morning become one of the fastest million-sellers of all time with their new album ‘The Circus’, the Official Charts Company has announced.
The band’s latest album had sold just over 990,000 copies by the end of yesterday’s (Thursday, December 18) trading, putting it on course to comfortably pass the 1 million mark today, only its 19th day in stores, according to Official Charts Company statistics.
Its rapid ascent to pass the 1m landmark means ‘The Circus’ is the fastest million-seller of this millennium – and the second fastest million-seller of all time, behind only Oasis’s ‘Be Here Now’.

Classic indie for AIDS awareness

In music news, we see the coming release of a rather outstanding-looking compilation featuring music from leading indie bands and designed to raise cash for HIV and AIDS awareness.

‘Dark Was The Night’ will be released on February 16 2009 on 4AD. Both Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National produced the album, with John Carlin (founder of the Red Hot Organization) its executive producer.

RIP: Mitch Mitchell

Mitch Mitchell, the British drummer in the seminal 1960s band the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has been found dead in his US hotel room, authorities say.

Mitchell, 61, was found dead in the Benson Hotel in Portland, Oregon, in the early hours of Wednesday. BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Hendrix’s drummer Mitchell dies.

RIP: Def Jam’s Shakir Stewart

Jay-Z’s successor, Def Jam Executive Vice President, Shakir Stewart was found dead yesterday (November 1).

“L.A. Reid and all of us at Island Def Jam Music Group are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and colleague Shakir Stewart,” read a statement from the label.

“Shakir was an amazing man in every sense of the word. A truly incredible friend and father who was an inspiration to not only our artists and employees, but to his family and the many people that had the privilege of counting him as a friend. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family at this very difficult time.”
