Some may recall our early experiments in iPod DJ clubbing at the Playlist Club; with the arrival of the iPhone we’ve been looking forward to something like Touch DJ – but Apple’s been sitting on the approval of the new App, for some unexplained reason.

Djay – MultiTouch magic for digital DJs…

Ableton, Serato promise new era for digital DJs

Two key names in the digital music making sector, Serato and Ableton, this afternoon announced a new creative partnership.

The two are at the forefront of music technology for DJ’s, remixers and music producers, and will in future work together in partnership to “pave the way for the future of digital DJ-ing,” they said.

Serato’s Scratch Live excels in vinyl emulation, music library control and lightning quick hands-on scratching, Ableton Live provides the tools for production, on-the-fly remixing and beat creation.

Apple developing DJ app for iPhone?

An Apple patent describes manipulation of objects on a touch screen. It includes numerous user interface applications, detailed with accompanying diagrams.

The DJ specific stuff is this: Like a pair of physical turntables, stylus 844 and stylus 855 can be graphical icon indications of a playback queue, the position of which can be varied by touching the queue on a touch sensitive display screen and dragging the icon to the desired position on the graphical record.
