Coldplay smash iTunes records


Coldplay smashed US iTunes album sales records this week, record label EMI has confirmed. The band’s latest album sold 721,000 units in its first week in the US, the label confirmed.

Already the biggest album pre-order in iTunes history, Viva La Vida also set the record for highest first-week album sales ever on the iTunes( Store worldwide. Today the album’s title song surpasses “Clocks” as the band’s biggest-selling single to date on the iTunes Store. 

Largely produced by Brian Eno, the album leaked online earlier this month, though the band made one album track Violet HIll available for download from its website for one week only in April.
