Weezer make iPhone Tap Tap for Xmas

Tapulous is serious in its strategy to link-up with musicians and labels for numerous generations of its hugely popular Tap Tap Revenge for the iPhone, following news of yesterday’s link-up with EMI with the announcement of a special Christmas version of the game, featuring music from Weezer.

Christmas With Weezer is available now and costs £2.99 (UK), $4.99 (US). It shares the same gaming engine as Tap Tap Dance, and is especially made for holiday season.

The game features a new Kids mode and has oh-so-festive screens, with snow and Christmas decorations of various kinds. Also making their debut in this release are new functions: tap and hold and multi-taps.

What’s unique about this item is that Weezer recorded six original covers of Christmas classics exclusively for the game, the first time a leading band has recorded music solely for an iPhone game.

The collection includes six traditional Christmas songs, including ‘Silent Night’ and ‘O Holy Night’, as well as two bonus tracks. Weezer singer River Cuomo told Festival Wise: “I agreed to do these special recordings for the game because I am a fan of each of the songs. The melody and vocal lines are incredible and it was fun to sing them.”

In related news, Tapulous is developing Tap Tap Revenge II (still free), which it has set to ship in early 2009.
