Telestream acquires leading online video tools

Telestream, a company which creates solutions enabling Windows Media formatted content work with QuickTime, has acquired Europe’s Vara Software, a developer of real-time video production tools.

The acquisition means Telestream now offers tools for real-time creation and distribution of video content over the web, including webcasting, live streaming, training and more.

“Vara Software is a highly-regarded, award-winning company that has been recognized by industry leaders such as Apple, Inc.,” said Dan Castles, CEO of Telestream. “The ability to quickly capture live events, create and distribute content for Internet-based content delivery is experiencing explosive growth. We believe the live element is going to be even more important going forward. While Vara Software products currently target individual users and departments within larger organizations, the technology is well suited to easily migrate to enterprise-level solutions.”

Three new products introduce themselves into the Telestream portfolio: webcasting app Wirecast, screencasting solution ScreenFlow and Videocue, for the creation of video-based presentations for the web.

Very interesting – ScreenFlow is an excellent product – hope they can build on it and not mess it up.

Yeah…I’m impressed with Telestream’s intuitive moves. All those Vara products seem quite exceptional. I think they will probably proceed in the same fashion when they acquired Popwire; they kept the Popwire team in tact and let them continue creating Compression Master…only renamed it Episode…but, I don’t see them renaming ScreenFlow, Wirecast or VideoCue…
