Germany calling: Sky TV plans an iPad push

News Corp. doesn’t just own a load of newspapers, it also owns Sky – and it looks like it intends introducing iPad-compatible Sky TV subscriptions, beginning with a roll-out in Germany later this month.

Sky Deutschland, News Corp.‘s German pay-TV provider will introduce its Sky Anywhere TV viewing service for the iPad in mid-May. The iPad application was created locally within five weeks.

“It will start with sports content, but there’s no reason why it can’t extend to everything Sky has to offer, both on a linear basis and in on demand. Most importantly for our customers with have the rights to do that, which means we can provide the services to them on either a low incremental cost, or in some cases no cost,” said Sky Deutschland CEO, Brian Sullivan. Why Apple’s ARM Takeover May Make Sense

So the news is that Apple may acquire Cambridge-based chip designer, ARM Holdings for $8 billion.

Chips designed by ARM now feature in nearly every one of the 4bn mobile phones in use around the world. ARM designs are deployed in Apple iPhones and iPads.

Analyst Richard Holway of TechmarketView said. “I have no idea if there is any validity in (the rumours) but makes sense as Apple designed the main chip for the iPad inhouse and doesn’t want to see its technology used in other competing products.” Continue reading

iPhone 4G Set To Debut June 22 Says Rumour Of The Day

Pretty certainly the rumour of the day today will be claims Apple will introduce the latest and newest fourth-generation iPhone on June 22.

We think the date sounds about right – after all, the company should be almost set to ship iPad in all its major international markets by then, assuming it gets to sort out its display production problems.

So, here’s the situation: Seems Apple’s hired the Yerba Buena Center for Arts for June 22, which is (you guessed it) a Tuesday, generating instant optimistic expectation the new model iPhone will be introduced on that day. Plus the date coincides with everybody’s expected dates for WWDC 2010. Continue reading

Will Apple target Google next in HTC Android patent war?

HTC this morning denied Apple’s accusations the company has infringed iPhone patents following receipt of legal action.

“HTC is not only an innovator in mobile technology but also an owner of many patents. We take American and international patent rights protection seriously,” it said in a statement posted on the Taiwan Stock Exchange website.
