Marc Frons is the NYT’s chief technology officer, and he calls Apple’s new iPad a “revolutionary” and “exciting” proposition for publishers. He says the system will combine the best of print and digital in one “thing”, promising “’exquisite typography” and ”dynamic page layout”, according to Stuff.co.nz.
He was speaking at Fairfax Digital’s Media 2010 conference in Sydney. ”It’s both very exciting and scary for us,” he said, confirming the move to create content for the device is deeply linked by his newspaper’s decision to put up a pay wall around its online content in 2011.

“We feel the version deserves the upgrade from Alpha grade to Beta grade, and we’re going to spend the next year improving it, so we can release 1.0 at CES next year,” they said.

Apple has been struck by yet another lawsuit impacting its digital media strategy – this time it stands accused of patent infringement in its wireless entertainment systems, Apple TV, AirPort Express and the Mac.
EZ4Media says Apple’s toys infringe on patents it acquired from Universal Electronics (UEI) in March. Further, it claims Apple hired three former UEI employees, Nick Kalayjian, Bruce Edwards, and Wendy Goh, about a year before it introduced Apple TV.
