MySpace Music completes imeem acquisition

MySpace Music today completed a deal to acquire certain assets of the popular social media music service imeem. 

MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta says the deal, “will allow us to leverage imeem’s industry leading technology and over time, meaningfully integrate their products into the MySpace Music experience.”

Kanye West ships surprise album through Imeem

Kanye West will release a remix compilation album featuring versions of tracks taken from previous albums and other hip-hop and reggae cuts through digital music service, Imeem.

DJ Benzi and Plain Pat were commissioned to put together the compilation, called ‘Sky High’, which is currently being streamed by Imeem and will reach hip-hop blogs later in the week.

UPDATED: Facebook plans digital music service – report

Facebook plans to launch its own digital music service in competition with MySpace Music, company CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said.

With social network competitor MySpace using its high-level News Corp. connections to launch a major label-friendly (some say too friendly) music service, Facebook – already hurting through sustained criticism of its new user interface and continually plagued by the challenge of monetising its traffic – plans to hit back.
