Lily Allen album promo’s an online game

Parlophone has introduced an online game to promote the launch of Lily Allen’s new album, ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ due for release 9 February 2009.

The game, ‘Escape the Fear’, is based on content from the album and the initial single, ‘The Fear’. It features an animated Lily Allen working her way through ten levels of musician-related action, avoiding obstacles such as paparazzi cameras, rabid handbag dogs, evil bankers throwing credit cards, alcohol, demonic puzzles and various other obstacles which make play more difficult.

Dan Duncombe, Digital Director at Parlophone, says the game is part of an integrated online launch for Lily Allen’s new album:

BBC, ITV, BT team as iPlayer takes on iTunes

The BBC is serious about attempting to deploy its iPlayer video-on-demand technology as an industry standard, announcing new partnerships with ITV and BT, “to promote a common industry approach and consumer offer to deliver on-demand TV over broadband.”

Such a pan-industry approach may in future pit the BBC and partners against other existing online TV solutions, including iTunes in the UK and similar services elsewhere.

Flash comes to the iPhone? Really?

We’re not sure what to make of this, but it seems Flash support in some form or other has made it to the iPhone – but we don’t quite believe it.

A breathless release from Greystripe this morning declares, “Flash Finally Launches on the iPhone via Advertising Units by Greystripe“. The company claims to be able to offer advertisers some sort of means by which to blast (those deeply annoying) Flash-based ads at iPhone users.

More Sony/Apple iTunes moves – DRM-free coming?

More signs of a developing relationship between Sony and Apple this morning.

Sony Pictures Television has reached another interesting deal with iTunes, offering its all-new legal drama, ‘Canterbury’s Law’ for purchase through the UK arm of the service.

It’s not the first television series the company has introduced into the UK market in this way – both Damages and Rescue Me (the first episode of the latter was made available free) also reached these shores through iTunes.

P2P pirates cost music $69 billion – claims

The value of unlicensed music trafficked on P2P networks in 2007 was $69 billion, according to new MultiMedia Intelligence research, though the researchers warn the value shouldn’t be seen as lost revenue but instead reflects the “fair value” on a per–track basis of traded music files.

“A $69 billion figure is staggering to contemplate, but it effectively illustrates the impact of piracy on the music industry,” according to Rick Sizemore of MultiMedia Intelligence.

EMI top brass praise ‘great’ iTunes Plus…

EMI’s senior executives provided a full and frank interview with Billboard today – an essential read for anyone in the business of music, the interview looks across the label’s revivified strategy and explores its new formation into three separate business units.

We like what they’re saying, to be blunt. The label seems prepared to make the transition away from music retail and toward relationship management, working to bring fans and bands closer together, which is exactly what most people have been saying all the labels should do.

We think EMI’s extensive recent root and branch reorganisation means it’s closer than most to achieving that dream.
