News Corp. doesn’t just own a load of newspapers, it also owns Sky – and it looks like it intends introducing iPad-compatible Sky TV subscriptions, beginning with a roll-out in Germany later this month.
Sky Deutschland, News Corp.‘s German pay-TV provider will introduce its Sky Anywhere TV viewing service for the iPad in mid-May. The iPad application was created locally within five weeks.
“It will start with sports content, but there’s no reason why it can’t extend to everything Sky has to offer, both on a linear basis and in on demand. Most importantly for our customers with have the rights to do that, which means we can provide the services to them on either a low incremental cost, or in some cases no cost,” said Sky Deutschland CEO, Brian Sullivan. The BBC and Nintendo UK today introduced a new version of the popular BBC iPlayer on Nintendo’s Wii.
First made available through the console’s Internet Channel in April 2008, BBC iPlayer will now be available as a dedicated Wii Channel to provide Wii users with a new, richer experience of the BBC’s TV and radio on-demand catch-up service. The new Wii Channel is expected to be available from 12.01am on Wednesday 18 November.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the cult classic film “This is Spinal Tap”, Shorts International and INgrooves have released Spinal Tap’s new short film, “Stonehenge: ‘Tis A Magic Place”. The film is available to download exclusively from iTunes for $1.99.
The seven-minute short marks iTunes’ first original film, where Spinal Tap, having put Stonehenge on the map in their legendary song about the world heritage site, pay their first visit to the monument.
Netflix is developing a streaming application that will enable iPhone users to stream movies offered by the service over a WiFi connection, reports claim.
This ‘Watch Instantly’ feature is already available to Mac and PC users on an unlimited plan, as it is to Xbox 360 owners. Some reports also claim the online video sales giant intends offering the service to the Nintendo Wiii in future.
The original report states: “The company will soon offer the Watch Instantly video-streaming feature on Apple iPhones and iPod Touch devices and the Nintendo Wii gaming console, according to an industry executive familiar with Netflix’s plans.”
