Historic Debut For Susan Boyle – No. 1 UK chart

Susan Boyle’s debut album I Dreamed A Dream leaps straight to number one in the Official UK Albums Chart and makes chart history, the Official Charts Company confirms today.

In one of the most anticipated album releases of all time, I Dreamed A Dream has sold over 410,000 copies since its release last Monday (23rd November). These phenomenal sales make it:

· The fastest-selling album of the year so far
· The biggest first week sales for a debut album in chart history
· One of the biggest first week sales for any artist album in chart history.

This feat has shot the shy 48 year old Scotswoman into the company of iconic chart artists such as Eminem, U2, Leona Lewis, Oasis, The Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Take That and Robbie Williams. In less than a year Susan Boyle has become a national superstar.

There are no other new entries in the Official UK Albums Chart Top 10.

Susan Boyle also makes an appearance in the Official UK Singles Chart entering the chart at number nine with Wild Horses.

The number one single is The Official BBC Children In Need Medley by Peter Kay’s Animated All Stars, which climbs to the top spot from last week’s number eighteen.

The only other new entry in the Official UK Singles Chart Top 10 is Rihanna’s Russian Roulette which debuts at number six.
