The developers behind popular multimedia software Boxee worked hard last week and today released a new version of the alpha software that’s equipped with support for online video streaming service, Netflix.
“While most people were chowing down on turkey and stuffing last week, the Boxee team was hard at work creating the next release of their Alpha,” the developers reveal.
“After surveying users last month, it was clear Netflix was their number one demand so we got right to work. We’re excited to say boxee users can now play, browse, and queue ‘Instant Watch’ movies through our custom Netflix application.”
Netflix on AppleTV is not currently available, on this the developers said, “This is our Number One priority right now as we’re working to overcome the hardware limitations of the Apple TV.”
The developers also took the chance to create a few examples of just how other developers can create content portals for Boxee, creating several demo interfaces for CNN, Hulu, Flickr, Picasa, and YouTube.
Additional features in this new release include:
– Netflix, browse, queue, and play streaming movies.
– TheWB, shows like Angel, Buffy, Firefly, The O.C., Smallville, and In Living Color
– The Boston Globe’s Big Picture blog, amazing photos from around the world
– MTVMusic, songs/artists in your collection are now linked with music videos
The software’s support for Hulu and YouTube has also been improved, with Hulu receiving a re-vamped user interface with access to personal queues from Hulu.com and a newly developed interface with improved browsing/playback as well as H.264 support for the YouTube client.
