Arty robo show has a musical flavour

ArtBots 2008 Dublin takes place on September 19-21, 2008, at Science Gallery at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
Participating works were selected from an international open call for “robotic art and art-making robots”, and represent a broad and inclusive cross-section of the tremendous range of creative art and robotics activity.
The show features 15 works by 16 artists from 9 countries, as well as performances, workshops, lectures, and an awards ceremony.

Participating artists are listed on the event web site. We took a very casual look and liked what we read about, The Storm (illustrated), which uses one single band of spring steel twenty feet long and creates sound by rocking back and forth, powered by a single motor. See, those variations in pattern and depth of the sounds give viewers the feeling of an oncoming storm. Sound artist Ray Lee (UK) will open the show with “Forcefield”, a kinetic sound machine performance. More information on the creative Johnny Five get-together is available here.
