Apple steps up publisher approaches as tablet day looms

Some valuable insights on Apple’s tablet bid with publishers and eBooks over at 9to5Mac.

“Apple has been moving very aggressively over the past month and has stepped it up since the event announcement last week. Both said they’d be surprised if Apple doesn’t have a deal of some sort worked out by launch. This wouldn’t necessarily be a nuts-and-bolts type of deal, but one where they agree to work together. Apple can say at the event we’ve signed up “all of the major publishers”,” reports Seth Weintraub.

Looks at the Apple v. Amazon rivalry and notes the latter firm’s recent defensive moves.

Steve Jobs on the tablet: “This will be the most important thing I’ve ever done”

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is highly excited at the soon-to-be-revealed Apple tablet, telling friends and close colleagues, “This will be the most important thing I’ve ever done”, according to TechCrunch.

“We haven’t heard this first hand, but we’ve heard it multiple times second and third hand from completely independent sources. Senior Apple execs and friends of Jobs are telling people that he’s about as excited about the upcoming Apple Tablet as he’s ever been.”

This from a man whose had a hand in with the invention of the PC, the mouse-based interface, the implementation of typography on computers for graphic design, the iMac, iPod and iPhone.

Motorola slaps RIM, demands end to US BlackBerry sales

Motorola has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC), alleging that RIM has engaged in unfair trade practices by selling products that infringe on five of Motorola’s parents.

The five patents listed in Motorola’s complaint relate to certain early-stage innovations developed by Motorola in key technology areas, such as Wi-Fi access, application management, user interface and power management, that are now being used by RIM.

Motorola has requested that the ITC commence an investigation into RIM’s use of Motorola’s patents and, among other things, issue an Exclusion Order barring RIM’s importation of infringing products; prohibiting further sales of infringing products that have already been imported; and halting the marketing, advertising, demonstration and warehousing of inventory for distribution and use of such imported products in the United States.

Music industry event gets the iPhone app habit…

This is a tour of the Mobile Roadie powered iphone app for the Midem 2010 music industry conference which is taking place right now. Rumor has it that attendance there is down about 10-12% from last year.
