Apple’s senior vice president of industrial design, Jonathan Ive, will next month receive an honorary doctorate from the world-leading Royal College of Art (RCA) during a convocation ceremony on July 3.
Ive will join outgoing RCA rector Professor Sir Christopher Frayling and sculptor Tony Cragg in receiving award. The Professor will be granted honorary rector status.
Others from the great and good within the art and design community receiving awards of various kinds from the RCA next month will include Wolff Olins co-founder Michael Wolff and Professor Frank Height, who will both receive senior fellowships.

As the march of the Apple-inspired App Store trend continues, Shazam has introduced a version of its mobile music application for download inside Nokia’s new OVI Store.
The application lets users discover music on Nokia handsets and online. “Shazam has been selected as a strategic partner in the music apps category of Nokia’s new mobile storefront,” the companies said.

“Jimi Hendrix was murdered by his manager as part of an insurance scam, according to the rock legend’s former roadie.
“Hendrix was 27 when he choked to death on his own vomit in a London hotel, but the exact circumstances of the tragedy have always been somewhat of a mystery.
“But now roadie James ‘Tappy’ Wright has come forward alleging Hendrix’s manager Michael Jeffery admitted to killing the rocker after he learned he was about to be fired by the star.”

Don’t tell the press, but we hear Apple continues to make major strides in the UK and European education markets, emerging as the leading platform for both.
The most recent Gartner Research data claims Apple continues to maintain itself as the number one computer manufacturer in the Western Europe education market for Q1 2009 with a healthy 26.4 per cent of market share.

Apple has updated its iTunes and QuickTime software. presumably in preparation for the introduction of the new iPhone Software 3.0 code and potential launch of the third-generation of iPhone next week.
iTunes 8.2 – distributed to developers in April – is available now, with its accompanying notes explaining the software now supports iPhones or iPod touch devices running iPhone Software 3.0.
The 83.12MB update also provides a batch of accessibility improvements and bug fixes.

Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison all turned up at US games industry event E3 yesterday to pimp the world premiere of The Beatles: Rock Band.
This music-based video game offers a glimpse at The Beatles’ music, career, and legacy. The Beatles: Rock Band will be released worldwide on 9/9/09, as will the release of the entire, original, digitally re-mastered Beatles CD catalogue.

MySpace Music will offer the world exclusive premiere of Kasabian’s new album ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’, making the album available for free streaming playback from today, Monday 1 June.
The album is available here, one full week before appearing on general release.
It’s the third album from the band, the follow-up to 2006’s no1 album Empire, which has sold over a million copies to date.
