Don’t tell the press, but we hear Apple continues to make major strides in the UK and European education markets, emerging as the leading platform for both.
The most recent Gartner Research data claims Apple continues to maintain itself as the number one computer manufacturer in the Western Europe education market for Q1 2009 with a healthy 26.4 per cent of market share.
Apple has also maintained its position in the UK market, where the company has become the number one computer manufacturer for education with a slightly higher 27.3 per cent of the market.
Apple began to make huge strides in the European education markets in 2006, when it first became the biggest education supplier with 15.2 per cent market share. The company also beat Dell to third place supplier in the UK market that year.
Speaking in 2007, Apple’s director of EMEA education markets, Herve Marchet, told Macworld’s Jonny Evans (that’s me, by the way, dear reader), “If you want to play in the education market, you need to be a solutions provider. You aren’t just bringing in the machine, you must also offer appropriate software, content and models for best practise in content creation. We even offer lesson plans.”
“The school of the future is today,” he added. “You have already in the education system the school of the future. They are already here, people using new technology, being totally in with the trend of new technology in schools.”
In August last year Gartner pegged Apple’s European market share at 19.2 per cent, 17.3 per cent in the UK.
In related news, Apple announced its ‘Back to School’ promo offer in recent days, offering students in the UK and the US a free iPod touch when they purchase a qualifying Mac.
