Universal launches five musical iPhone apps

iphonesdkUniversal Music has teamed up with digital media firm Kyte to launch five free iPhone applications for a range of Interscope acts, including Lady Gaga, The Pussycat Dolls, Soulja Boy Tell `Em, the All American Rejects and Keri Hilson.

The applications are available today through the App Store and offer a range of features, including access to sundry content and fan-based social networking.

Brit Awards Boost To Charts

U2 and MySpace stream upcoming album

u2nolineFollowing widespread leaks of tracks through file-sharing networks, U2 last night made tracks from the band’s soon-to-ship album, ‘No Line On The Horizon’ available for streaming playback through MySpace.

The band have made the entirety of the release available for playback through the service, but only to US users. Outside the US only the first single from the album is available for streaming.

Presidents of America unleash iPhone app

presiPhone apps have reached the President, at least, rock band the Presidents of the United States of America have released four albums within an all-new iPhone application, now available through the App Store.

Aimed at the fans, the applications costs $3 and also features rare early demo recordings which were previously only available on a run of 500 cassette tapes. Fans also gain access to live tracks and demos in the form of streaming playlists.

Online musos gain remix community site

trackandfieldAll new digital music startup remix site, tracksandfields.com this week launched the public beta of its new remixing and online collaboration music platform.

Led by a team of music pros, Tracksandfields.com has been in development since 2006. The development was funded by the German minister of economy and technology and the European Social Fund.

Brit awards spark digital music boost

myspace_musicOnline music sales in the UK saw an immediate impact during last night’s screening of the Brit Awards, UK charts administrators, the Official Charts Company revealed this afternoon.

The chart position invigilators noted increased sales of downloads were apparent within moments of the awards show starting, with artists who either won awards or played live at the show seeing their sales far outperform the market.

iTunes propels Lily Allen’s US success
