Musicians gain Facebook, MySpace retail

roots_manuvaNews out of Midem, where the Indie Mobile arm of the [PIAS] Entertainment Group, have reached a deal with US mobile content and widget specialist Dijit to be their exclusive European distribution partner.

Dijit’s widget allows labels and artists to sell direct to fans through their MySpace and Facebook sites without the need to set up cumbersome web shops. Roots Manuva will be using the web tool on his official website, MySpace page and other digital media sites.

The Dijit mobile store will come in “Widget” form. It will be easily deployable on a campaign by campaign basis and able to be distributed across both official websites and virally by fans.

“2009 is going to be the year of ‘Tactical Retail’” according to Indie Mobile Founder and MD Seth Jackson “while we are seeing a slow decline in the traditional portals for selling mobile personalisation content, there is a sharp rise in sales when you take the retail environment to the fans.

“To sell music and video directly to fans you need a solution that is flexible enough to work in any environment online and can be quickly deployed to wherever the fans happen to be whether that is a MySpace page, a fansite, a blog or a large media site. This is the approach we have to using mobile retail in the live environment and we now have the capability to do this online.

“We are very pleased to be working with a partner such as Dijit that shares our passion and creativity for combining music and technology.”
