He is only one in a long line of artists to announce similiar things.

Ash announced the exact same thing a year ago.

Yawn, good that their PR people are getting them column inches, but blah. its boring to hear the same things again and again.

I dont think the album is dead, i just think there is a lack of musicians writing good albums.

So, Billy, are you saying your customers, the people who would buy your music, are too stupid to know that they are supposed to buy your fully-formed artistic vision, as an album? Is it the vendor's fault, or is it the customer's or is it the artist's? I mean, who's responsible? Surely, the Smashing Pumpkinhead fans know that to fully appreciate Billy Corgan's vision, they should buy the whole album, or maybe they're smarter than Billy Corgan?

The music industry had managed to effectively kill off the single with the result that the music charts were a joke. (CD Singles were outrageously expensive.)

Apple came along with the iTunes Store and breathed new life in to the single not least because they charged a reasonable price but also because the charts now really reflect sales and not the mockery they used to be.

So, Apple generates BILLIONS of sales, and the musicians and music companies do nothing but complain.

Apple then come up with 'complete my album' as a way to upsell people from singles to albums in a way that is fair to both customers and musicians/music companies. Note: as far as I am aware, none of the other download stores off this still.

So what do the musicians and music companies do, continue to whine like the spoilt little babies they are.

Apple, could make albums on iTunes more attractive still, if the moronic musicians and music companies would let them, by making albums (and only albums) available in DRM free Apple Lossless format - that is effectively equal to a CD.

Of course the idiots in charge of the music companies will never allow this.

Really...sorry it sucks for you Billy, but it's sucked for us consumers for about 50 years! It's about time we had the opportunity to buy what WE want, not what have to.
