New Ipsos Mori research suggests that file-sharing and illegal music downloading may be far less damaging than we’re being told.
As reported by NMA, illegal downloaders, or ‘freeloaders’, spend just 1% less on recorded music than those who pay for downloads.
Illegal downloaders apparently spend 44% of their music spend on recorded music; while those who don’t steal spend 45%.
The report’s behind a subscription wall, so we only have the gist of this right now – clearly we can’t comment on the methodology, nor can we analyst the strange statistic above – percentages don’t necessarily tell the whole story after all.
We have been able to glean one more fact – illegal music downloaders care about the music they here, spending 33% of what they spend on music on tip-top listening equipment.
